This thing that some of you do, calling the President something other than his given name is pretty cheesy. His name is Barrack Hussein Obama, not Barry or zer0bama or anything else. You may not like him, hell you can even hate him, I sure hated Bush but I didn't play childish games with his name, it's so grammar school. The Beatles once sang, the love you get is equal to the love you give. Take the love away and use respect and you can see why it is difficult to give anyone respect when they are unable to show respect. You're not disrespecting the man you're disrespecting the office. The office of the President of the United States of America, the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, the man with his finger on the trigger.

Picture the end of the Clinton era with a surplus and picture the end of the Bush era with a deficit. What happened in between?

9/11 happened among other things, but that was just the beginning.

Let's invade Afghanistan and we'll take money from the surplus to pay for it. While we're there let's let Bin Laden escape Bora Bora so he can fight another day. Great military strategy.

While we're there let's invade Iraq on some trumped up reasons caused he threatened my daddy during the gulf war. We can pay for this out of the surplus as well. Oh, and anyone who thinks that Hussein was in bed with Al Qaeda, well that's just downright pretty stupid.

While we're at it let's create the Office of Homeland Security, we can also pay for this out of the surplus. While we're at it let violate the constitution in several areas to increase our surveillance activities at the expense of everyone's civil liberties. (I personally don't have a problem with this but it is out of the framework established within the constitution)

Well, we also need this cumbersome organization called TSA to monitor travelers so they don't hijack another plane (a good thing) and we can also pay for this out of the surplus as well. Then we can piss of the public by patting down old people and making young children cry, won't that be fun.

But now the surplus is running out what can we do to replenish the coffers, I know, let's give tax breaks to the wealthy and not raise taxes. After all the banking, lending and investment institutions are doing so well, what could go wrong.

Enter Barrack Hussein Obama, the 44th President of the United States and he gets all of the above from the exiting administration. There's no playbook for the disaster that's portrayed here. The Dems have the opportunity to make a difference and blow it. The Repubs take the word "yes" out of their vocabulary and bog down the system.

Universal health care that the President seems insistent about becomes the rallying cry against any kind of social reform. The tea baggers say let them die, wow isn't that humane. Yuk, yuk.

Unemployment is up, jobs are lost overseas, corporations are now individuals (stupid) and the programs to help the nation are decried as tax and spend (more stupidity). The Repubs are now a two party system with the religious not-so-right making great headways within the tea bagger's ranks to the detriment of the principles of this great nation.

It's only going to get worse and I wish it didn't have to be that way but the pendulum has not swung completely to the other extreme yet. Give it time, it will. While we're waiting why don't you go a buy some really big ticket item and write a check for the full amount with funds you don't have, after all, it's the American way.

Show me some positive facts, directly attributed to this Admin. Aside from the killing of terrorists, which I give credit to our military and CIA for.

As I said before we are divided and I don't see it changing because you and your type care more about bringing down Obama than what is good for the country. Please don't let facts stand in your way.

ScottyInAtlanticCanada ....this is vstyler's thread, and your nick suggests you're not even American so where's your relevance?

vstyler isn't an American either! He says he's been here for 25 years so why isn't he a citizen yet? What's preventing him from becoming a citizen if he loves this place so much?

The President is Commander and Chief so it is he who gets the credit. It goes with the job. If the operation had failed you'd have been on his ass like flies on shit much like when Jimmy Carter failed to free the hostages in Iran. In a similar vein at least Obama didn't play the drama queen card and fly in on an air craft carrier with a bogus "Mission Accomplished Banner" banner behind him. Hell, the mission wasn't accomplished at that time anyway.

Bush bragged how he was gonna do it but Bush failed and instead launched a war on Iraq. The war was not only based on lies, muck like the invasion of Poland was back in 1939, but was ill conceived. Exactly how do you pay for a war while at the same time reducing taxes? That was alright with Bush and Cheney though because there is a lot of profit for Halliburton there. Lots of profits for a group of American companies. Think of all the money spent to first destroy the Iraqi infrastructure and then re build it? Wouldn't that money have been better off spent here?

Barack Obama's policies stopped the economic meltdown. He said when he got into office that it would take at least 5 years to turn the economy around. Fact: From Aug 2008 to Jan 2009 there were 3,175,000 lost. All lost under the Bush administration. Yeah. You got some magic to get those jobs back? Until this summer there was actually some real progress being made but then the tea baggers in Congress decided to try and make the government default. Real Patriots those tea baggers. It takes brains to let a nut job like Grover Norquist take over your decision making process

600,000 people in the first quarter of 2011 now have health insurance as a direct result of Obama Care. They would have been uninsured otherwise.

Repel of Don't Ask, Don't Tell. I applaud it.

The financial reform bill. Far from perfect but a way to help protect consumers and investors from the banksters and wall street jackals.

The American Jobs Act. This will help to put people back to work and rebuild the infrastructure. The problem is getting it past the republicons who care more about getting Obama out of there than helping the middle class.

Just watch this:

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed, lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work instead of living on public assistance."

Cicero , 55 BC

We know Rome's fate........so, evidently we've learned nothing in the past 2,066 years.

What'd the Romans ever do for us?........

For those who buy into the "Koch Brothers Conspiracy".......suggested reading LINK

Then consider if the word "sheeple" applies.

Socialism and Obama are finished in this country, starting 2012.. too bad for you.

I've voted democrate, republician and independent.  In my mind, Obama is the worst, underqualified person to be elected president and has that old democrate way of dixing things:  Throw money at it and it will go away.  But it hasn't, so lets throw more money at it, doesn't matter that we're trillions in debt, we'll be long dead and won't have to worry about paying the Chinese back.  Racist, nope, sexist, nope.  I'd have voted for Colin Powell( a very smart man) or the (ugly) Hillery Clinton.  AWhats needed is to force the americian companies to bring back the work they farmed out to China, that would put the Americian workers back to work.

on Oct 03, 2011

If it was up to some folks, we would ALL be one big middle class, driving the same cars, living in 2.5 kid semi-detached homes and watching govt sponsored television.

THAT.. ain't my vision of America.

.. and the entire premise, is FLAWED.

It..... does..... not.... work... it will... never work.

it has been tried and tried, over and over, in many countries, over many many years...

It..... does..... not.... work.

So if some people get ripped off, if some people have to be poor so ALL of us have a chance, thru HARD WORK, to make BETTER than middle class lives for ourselves, then so be it. There will always be greed, there will always be poverty.

Maybe I just have more ambition than others. Maybe you don't understand my dream of something better than mediocrity.

on Oct 03, 2011

vStyler
there will always be poverty.

But does it have to be that way? The very programs created to fight poverty are being sacked and that by republicans. Democrats are being forced to compromise and as always with Dems they capitulate like a bunch of wusses. I was always a Republican and have voted as such but the only Bush that got my vote was his father, big mistake as it turned out. The son got jack shit from me. Now I couldn't care less for either party. I'm going Independent because neither one of the other parties knows what the hell they're doing. And you can't say they do....look at the condition our country is in. The only thing both of them know how to do is screw things and people up. IMO

on Oct 03, 2011

But does it have to be that way?

There is true poverty, those forgotten elements of society, that truly need the help of others, that cannot, through no fault of their own, fend for themselves.

If not cured, that can be eased, and I am not opposed to that, whatsoever.

Then there is the poor, lazy, entitled, whining, gimme gimme gimme element..growing more by the second.  That would rather get a check, than a job. Bag them all up and throw them off a bridge for all I care.

This President has not empowered them to do something with their lives, or motivated them to lift themselves up. He doesn't want that, if that happened, it would be contrary to everything he believes.

They want people reliant on their Govt.

To me, that is not America, as I want to see it.

I'm going to stick this news report in here since it's directly related to what we're talking about and extremely current.  I really don't care to comment on it one way or another:

Interesting Dave, for me, its the Admin, doing their best to look like they are doing something, (photo-op \ news coverage) while knowing full well, nothing will get done.

Their strategy now, as they have no record to stand on, is to make the GOP look like they are stopping job creation by proposing bills that are unlikely to pass.

'Every federal secretary and agency chief has been assigned to examine what the administration can do to accelerate job growth over the next several months'

Simple, roll back Obama-care.. INSTANT job creation.

I have to ask, if they wanted people working, why has this kind of stuff, taken 3 years to even get started?

They will look as if they are giving it the ol' college try, while in campaign mode, then, if by some quirky twist of fate, or.. election fraud, and they are re-elected... Jobs will be be right back on the back burner.

Kind of looks like the same ol' D.C. BS to me, regardless of who's sitting in which seats.

Oops, I guess I just commented on it, didn't I.
